Since arriving on the New York music scene in 1989, I have been pursuing my own education by completing a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at Columbia University, as well as participating in the music education of others. My academic work has mainly focused on Latin American, Caribbean, and African American music traditions and over the last 20 years I have been conducting field research throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. And my dissertation, entitled, "Salsa In New York" explores salsa performance from the perspective of the musicians who make the music on the New York scene.
EthnoGrooves contains some of my published articles that have grown from my research. I am particularly interested in sharing these materials with you and I would greatly appreciate any feedback you might have. Email with your thoughts and I'll get back to you soon. |
